Story: Lexi was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Lexi is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Lexi is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Lexi will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive!

What my foster says: She’s been doing great. Loves to snuggle and give kisses, and then will get about a 10 minute burst of energy before she’s settled in to snuggle again. She’s doing great in her crate for overnights. Pretty much settled right in and slept through the night. Also a good eater, digs right in and eats her kibble. She does well with our dog. She seems pretty submissive. Rolls over and shows her belly when she met him. She does seem to like to chase the cats (and eat the cat food - we had to put a gate at the bottom of the stairs as she’s the perfect size for going through the cat room door). She seems to want to play with the cats, so I think she’d be fine in a house with playful cats (ours do not want to play with doggies). She’s got a low to medium energy level. She likes to play fetch with one of the dog toys. Will chase and return it for about 10 minutes, and then ready for a nap. She also loves walks. Gets very excited whenever the leash comes out, and is on a mission during walkies, no stopping to smell the roses. She enjoys the backyard. Spends most of her time wandering around sniffing away. We’ve kept a long lead attached to her in the yard (not tethered, just dragging behind), and she’s responded well to a loud “nah nah” to get her to stop sniffing under the gate gap and other trouble making. She’s a big snuggle bug. Her favorite spot is stretching out on my blanket covered legs. She’ll stay there for hours if I let her. She also likes to burrow under the covers. She also wants to be wherever we are. Overall a real sweetheart.

The fee to adopt Lexi is $450. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, her spay, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in his foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. Lexi has been seen by a shelter vet and was given a clean bill of health.
