Story: Kit Kat was rescued from North Carolina during Hurricane Helene. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Kit Kat is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Kit Kat is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Kit Kat will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive!
What my foster says: Kit Kat is as sweet as her name! She's done well in a multitude of situations, being fostered with other dogs and also solo in both a home with a small yard or an apartment. She quickly learned the tricks of an elevator in an apartment and stairs as well, taking on new challenges with uncertainty at first until you see her courage and confidence shine through. What Kit Kat loves the most is to be by your side, happily sleeping in her dog bed while I'm working at my desk, or snoozing on the couch while I'm cooking dinner or relaxing and watching television. Kit Kat is starting to learn how to cuddle, coming closer and resting her head on your legs when you watch television. She did take a bit to warm up, but seeing her melt when she's comfortable was well-worth the wait! She has done well being left home alone and outside of the crate while I run errands or go into the office for a few hours. She's completely housebroken, and will alert you as well if she needs to go with a bark or two. Kit Kat is actually fairly quiet in the home, only barking if she needs something or whining if she wants you to put her to bed (no, seriously). During our visits to the dog park, you'll know when she's ready to go home when she starts to follow you around, sitting by you to signal that she's tired. In other words, she's more of an introvert than an extrovert! So as long as she gets her walk and potty breaks and some loving between work meetings, she's as happy as a clam! She has done well with meeting children and other dogs. She's met a lot of people through our walks and when she sees my friends, and she loves every single one. Kit Kat will sleep in her crate through the whole night and will always be fine if left out of the crate. She's done well with handling the city noises, and has been fine during thunderstorms. Kit Kat would do well in any home, and would bring so much joy and love into her furever family's life!
The fee to adopt Kit Kat is $450. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. Kit Kat has been seen by a shelter vet and has completed treatment for Heartworm. Heartworm is a very treatable illness that is common in many shelter dogs coming from the South. For more information on heartworm, visit our blog.
